Features

Built to get out of your way.

Everything is one click, one keystroke, or already done. Recordings start in under a second and ship in under thirty.

One-click trim

Cut the boring parts without leaving the toolbar.

Drag the orange handles to trim. Drag across the timeline to remove a chunk in the middle. No timelines, no rendering queue.

Instant share link

A copyable link the second you stop.

Upload starts while you're recording. By the time you click stop, the URL is in your clipboard.

Keyboard-first

Hands stay on the keyboard.

Start, stop, trim, save, share — all without touching the mouse.

However you communicate, faster on video.

A recorder isn't just for devs anymore. Pick a workflow.

Show, don't write a thousand-word bug report.

Capture exactly what you saw, with the console open and the network tab visible. Drop the link in the issue and move on.

Half my PR comments are just a shoyu link now. The team merges twice as fast.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered without the marketing voice.

Is shoyu only for developers?
No. shoyu started in dev tools because we wanted a recorder that respected the keyboard and the file system, but the result is a recorder that anyone who works on a screen will like. PMs, designers, support folks, teachers, indie hackers — same product, same speed.
Where do my recordings live?
On your disk, in a folder you choose. Sharing is opt-in: when you click “Copy share link,” we upload the file to shoyu.cc and copy the URL. Until then, it's just a file you own.
Does shoyu need an account?
Not to record, trim, and export. You only need an account if you want shareable links. The free tier covers most individuals.
What about Windows and Linux?
shoyu is macOS-only today. Windows is in private beta — you can join the waitlist below. Linux is on the roadmap but unscheduled. We'd rather ship one platform extremely well than three platforms badly.
How does shoyu compare to Loom or QuickTime?
QuickTime is free and fine, but you have to trim in iMovie and upload to YouTube to share. Loom is great for sales demos and async meetings; shoyu is faster, lighter, and stays out of the menu bar until you summon it. Use what fits your workflow.
What gets recorded — my whole screen?
Whatever you point the crop tool at. Full screen, a window, or a region. shoyu remembers the last region you used.
Is there a watermark or a length limit?
No watermark, ever. The free tier caps individual recordings at five minutes, which covers most of what people share. Pro is unlimited.
