Record Code context from your editor
Show viewers which file and lines you were on, mark moments as you go, and start a recording without leaving the editor.
What Shoyu records
While you record, the extension tells Shoyu which file you have open and when you switch. Viewers see a Code moment with the file and line, plus View source or Open source when the repository is on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket.
These extra signals are on unless you turn them off in the editor’s settings: cursor and selection position, edits and saves, errors and warnings appearing or clearing, debug sessions, and branch switches.
Commands
Run these from the Command Palette.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| Shoyu: Open Recorder (⌥⇧⌘S) | Opens the Control Deck. It does not start recording. |
| Shoyu: Stop Recording (⌥⇧⌘S) | Stops the recording. |
| Shoyu: Start Instant Recording | Records Just code (the editor window) or Entire desktop at once, with no countdown. |
| Shoyu: Mark Code Moment (⌥⇧⌘M) | Marks the current file and line, with an optional note of up to 240 characters. |
| Shoyu: Search Recordings | Searches recordings you can see. |
| Shoyu: Search Current File | Finds recordings where this file was open. |
| Shoyu: Code Context Status | Shows the connection, what is captured and recent moments. |
Instant recording records your system audio and first microphone for that recording only. Your saved recorder settings stay as they were.
Find recordings about a file
Open a file and run Shoyu: Search Current File. Choose a result to open it in your browser at the moment the file was on screen. Search needs only the editor sign-in, not the Mac app.
