Understand what Studio edits hide

Studio edits change what most viewers see, and the original recording stays. Learn where the original can still play, and what to do if you recorded something nobody should see.

Remove something you did not mean to record

  1. On the Playback page, click Configure video and open Danger.
  2. Under Delete recording, tick the box and click Delete recording.
  3. Record the video again, without the part you want to keep private.

A deleted recording can be recovered for a day in a Personal space, and for 30 days in a team organization. After that, its video, transcript, comments and context are deleted for good. See Move, transfer or delete a recording.

What Studio changes

Studio never changes the recorded video. Each edit is saved as an instruction, such as “skip 0:12–0:31” or “mute 1:04–1:10”, and the player follows those instructions while it plays. This is why you can change or undo any edit, and go back to an earlier version.

The video file stays whole. It still has every skipped part and the original sound under every Audio section.

Where viewers see your edit

WhereWhat plays
Playback in a browserYour edit. Only the recording’s owner can switch to the original. Owners and admins of the organization see the edit too.
Picture in Picture or the background, for example on an iPhoneThe original. The bar above the player says so.
Casting to another screenThe original. The bar above the player says so.
The video file the browser streamsThe original. Someone with the right tools can save it and watch the skipped parts.
Agents and apps using the API or MCPNo video. They get a link to the recording’s Shoyu page. For anyone but the owner, words, context and logs from skipped parts are left out. Agents you connect to your own account also read what you skipped.

The thumbnails, hover previews and link previews other people see come from parts you kept.

What comes next

Shoyu is in early access. We are working on applying Studio edits to the video itself, so every place a recording plays shows your edit.
